Nord Tap VPN installation issue Resolution

If you’re having issues installing Nord’s Tap VPN (or openVPN or any other similar TAP installer) this incredibly simple fix worked for me:

I have a simple work around that I have confirmed works on 3 different WIN 10 x64 machines so far that wouldn’t install TAP previously. I’m running Kaspersky Small Office Security 4.

  1. Temporarily disable your antivirus (you don’t need to uninstall it)
  2. Navigate to C:\Users\*CURRENT USER* and open it up
  3. Go to the “View” tab and click “Options” on the right side
  4. When the Folder Options window pops up, select the “View” tab
  5. Select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives
  6. Uncheck “Hide protect operating system files (Recommended)”
  7. Hit “Apply” at the bottom
  8. Run the OpenVPN installer as administrator
  9. Change everything back

BAM! It will finish installing and will not hang. If you want to live dangerously, you can start the installer first, let it hang, then complete the steps. It will become unstuck as soon as you hit “Apply” button after making the changes.

Fallout New Vegas “Detecting Hardware” Loop Error (Windows 10)

After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 I experienced an issue where launching FONV caused the system to run the detect hardware action. It set the graphics settings to high. Clicking “Play” then caused the check to initiate again and it set it to high again. This repeated indefinitely.

Despite hunting all over the FONV / Nexus / Bethesda forums etc I was unable to find a fix, but some further tweaking cured it.

To fix the fault:

1. Locate the folder “This PC / Documents / My Games / FalloutNV”.
2. Right click > Properties.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Click the “EDIT” box.
5. In the top window make sure your logon profile is there.
6. If you don’t see your logon profile click “Add”, type your name in the bottom box of the popup, click “Check names”, click “OK”.
7. Once you see your profile, click it and set all the checkboxes in the bottom window to “Allow” except “Special Permissions” at the bottom.
8. Click “Apply” then Ok/cancel back out.

That should fix the issue for you; it did for me!

Win 7 x64 PDF Thumbnail Preview Fix

***EDIT 02/08/2015: This fix also works in windows 10 (tested in Win 10 Pro). After upgrading from Windows 7 I lost my thumbnails. I ran the program again and got them back.

I spent a fair amount of time looking for a fix which would enable PDF file preview thumbnails Windows 7 64-bit to display correctly.

In Explorer all I was seeing was the Adobe PDF icon, not a preview of the file itself.

Despite trawling the net and installing many supposed fixes and messing with the registry none worked. I was about to give up when I stumbled upon a post which linked me to the website of Leo Davidson at http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/ which contained a supposed fix. I decided to give it one more try and sure enough it did the job!

I’ve since used this fix on several machines and it performs exactly as it should. So take a look at Leo’s website and get yourself a fix which really works!
